DG Set - One Point extension - The expected impacts

The impact of extending the DG point by another 5Amp Socket

This is the information provided by one of the Members of Association 3.0 regarding the DG point extension by a 5A socket.
  1. There was a notice posted in ADDA asking owners to request for a DG extension
  2. A declaration was supposed to be signed regarding allowing persons to allow inspection. (Link to declaration used as of 10 Jan 2022)
  3. On Approval, PH Electrician would fit the additional socket - Socket to be provide by owner
  4. Owners / Tenants misusing the point for additional appliances is limited as each floor load is limited to 12A and each tower load is limited to 20A.
Now that the information is public, a lot of owners would like to get this additional point.

The following is the impact that I see:
Electrical Load:
Max load per tower = 20A * 220V = 4400 VA = approk 4.4 KW
Total Load on the system (15 towers) = 4.4 KW * 15 = 66 KW

Current Load vs. Expected Load from In-Home use:

Assuming a Fan takes 64 W and Light at 40 W, 104 W per flat

So, in an ideal case, we are looking at a 17.5% increase in load on DG set in the worst case.

So is this a big increase?

The increase does not look big. Our DG sets should be able to take an additional 10 KW. There are the impacts:
  1. Fuel expenses are set to increase
  2. The Association should expect mailers from house owners to provide the additional connection. Who would want to be deprived of a facility, especially, when it is on the house (common account)?
  3. As the requests for the connections increase, the load too is expected to increase proportionately. The office should already be seeing an increase in the requests for this additional connection.
  4. The probability of hitting the peak loads will increase with larger number of points actively connected.
  5. The MCBs connected to DG point are expected to trip more frequently. This will trigger calls to helpdesk for fixing these, leading to increased load on Support Staff.
  6. If owners are not prudent about the use of this connection, the electricity usage on common meters is expected to increase.
  7. I do not know if there is a regulatory approval (Bescom, Fire, Builder) mandated for this change. Any penalties will transpire to higher maintenance.

Is this extension good for us?

In my view, No. This would promote use of common facilities for individual purposes.
